General Relief Opportunities for WORK (GROW)

The General Relief Opportunities for Work Program, also known as GROW, provides employment and training services to help employable General Relief (GR) customers obtain jobs and eliminate the need for GR benefits. Participation in GROW is mandatory as a condition of aid. You will be assigned to a GROW Case Manager who will help you to achieve your employment goals. While participating in GROW, you will be assigned to activities such as Job Readiness Training, Vocation Assessment, or Education and Training. GROW helps with transportation cost and job-related expenses, such as supplies or uniforms. Mental Health, Substance Use Disorder, and Domestic Violence services are also available to you through the GROW Program.

Orientation is the first activity in GROW.  It consists of a two-hour presentation to provide you with an overview of the GROW Program, services available, participation requirements, and benefits of employment.  During the orientation, you will also complete a literacy assessment.  This will help your GROW Case Manger to work with you to prepare for employment.  Attending a GROW orientation is a condition of General Relief eligibility for employable customers.

Case Management

During your first case management appointment, a job skills assessment is completed to gather information regarding your skills, work history, education, etc.  This information is used to help identify your employment goals and the next GROW activity that will help you reach those goals.  You will continue to receive Case Manager Appointments to discuss your progress and determine your next activity.
